Difference between neem and mahaneem

posted May 22, 2014, 8:50 PM by Unknown user   [ updated May 22, 2014, 9:40 PM by Ms T Vento RTMS ]

Namasté and welcome to the indian blog.  Today we will learn about the difference between neem (azadirachta indica) and mahaneem (Melia azediracht).  I had previously made a post about neem but something baffled me when I found out there was a different variety that people mix up with neem all the time. This plant is called wild neem, wild margosa, indian lilac, mahaneem(Hindi), limda(gujarati), kathha vembhu(Tamil), and scientifically, Melia azediracht. It's just larger, darker, and has more flimsy branches than regular neem. Compare below...

Henna or Alta?

posted May 14, 2014, 7:31 PM by Unknown user   [ updated May 14, 2014, 7:31 PM by Ms T Vento RTMS ]

Namaste and welcome to the indian blog. Today we will talk about henna, and how its more popular than alta. Henna, also known as mehndi, is a paste that when applied to skin and left to dry, creates a temporary tattoo that stains black, orange, brown or red. The henna plant or its uses were not originally indian but instead arab! What was used in older india was alta also known as mahawar. Alta does not take hours to dry and is more of a liquid than paste. Alta was traditionally made from nagarvelna(Gujarati), paan(hindi), or betel leaves(english) that had turned red. Nowadays alta is made from chemicals that make the skin stain for more than a month! Whereas traditional alta stains for 5 days. Alta is also still used in bengali cultures where alta on the hands and feet is a common site. Alta is used to decorate hands and feet of men and women who do indian dances. What do you like better? Alta or Henna?

Resin incense in India

posted May 8, 2014, 7:41 AM by Unknown user   [ updated May 8, 2014, 7:41 AM by Ms T Vento RTMS ]

Namaste and welcome to the Indian blog.  The topic today is about...you guessed it, another indian topic.  The topic is about a type of incense called Sambrani. This is a resin collected from trees.  There are many forms of this product that you could get it in, a large brick, a pack of sand, or even chunks of resin. Its burned on a flamingly hot piece of charcoal so that it can slowly smoke away.  This sambrani incense is burned for many uses, whether its used to dry hair by letting smoke into the locks of hair, or used to create a purifying atmosphere, or used in worship.  Thats all for this blog but enjoy this picture of an amount of sambrani resin burning!

My Doves Nest Building

posted Apr 24, 2014, 5:06 AM by Unknown user   [ updated Apr 24, 2014, 5:06 AM by Ms T Vento RTMS ]

Namaste and welcome to the indian blog.  Today i would like to share with you, my dove who l give little sticks and stems from leaves, plants etc..  I do this because he always takes the twigs and places them into a neat and strong nest!  There are some minus points because my dove is a male bird, whenever a dove makes the nest the like, they, for about a week start calling for a female and cooing and getting all noisy for 7 whole days of my life!!! But otherwise im happy that its a young male dove thats trying to get a mate!

Same Love By Macklemore

Namaste and welcome to the indian blog.  Today i will talk about lyrics from the song "Same Love".  This post is to express how i feel about it.  The lyrics to the song is very "strong" i could say because it deals with the sensitive subject of "Homophobia" meaning that people have hatred for 'gay' people.  The song relates to my blog by the fact that i go by the motto "without fear, without hate" which has been chanted by many north Indian people from Punjab  including inspirational comedian: Lilly Singh.     The same goes for my blog where everyone is treated without fear and hate even though i am naturally vicious (for good reasons.....sometimes)! I also NEED to say that everyone is human!!! If you can be friends with people of other religions, you could be friends with people of other ways of life! Its a simple thing that many people do not think about!!! Thanks for reading to what i have to say.  PEACE!!!!!

My Pet Pigeons Laid Eggs

posted Mar 25, 2014, 5:09 AM by Unknown user   [ updated Mar 25, 2014, 7:32 AM by Ms T Vento RTMS ]

Namaste and welcome to the Indian blog. Today I have exiting news. My pet pigeons Ganga(female)  and Vishnu (male) have made a nest for the first time and have started laying eggs!  One day 2 years ago I found a badly injured mourning dove outside my grandparents back door. My dad made a 2x2x2 foot birdhouse to keep the dove in. After we released it months later, I introduced my two pigeons to it and ever since I have been trying to get them to nest in it. So just a week ago they had started to place twigs and string into a neat but flimsy nest on the "nesting" shelf inside the cage. On Sunday the first egg was laid!!! They always had to leave the egg alone to get food so i placed some seed inside the the house. Then yesterday at around 7:12 pm she laid the second egg. Now we just have to wait 14-18 days before i make a post about the babies!!!

All about Neem-also known as the Margosa Tree

posted Feb 23, 2014, 4:14 PM by Unknown user   [ updated Feb 24, 2014, 7:40 AM by Ms T Vento RTMS ]

Namaste and welcome to the indian blog.  This blog post is all about the Neem tree.  The other names are: Margosa, Vempu, Muarubaini, Limda, "miracle tree", and Azadirachta Indica.  The Neem tree is originally from India but has spread to almost every other tropical country.  Neem has helped many people around India and Africa as a medicine against malaria and dengue.  The oil and fresh leaf juice of this plant can kill and deter most pest insects.  Neem leaves and fresh berry-like fruits  are sometimes cooked in dishes in India and Thailand, Even though the leaves are EXTREMELY bitter.  The leaves, stems, and fruits are REALLY good for health and are recommended to be consumed as a vitamin daily.  In India the neem is regarded as a very special tree because it is used in lots of religious ceremonies and is considered as the symbol of a goddess.  If you get neem seeds to plant, you better harvest them yourself and plant them within 30 days, after 30 days "fresh" neem seeds will lose their life and cannot become plants.  You can say that Neem seeds have an "expiry date''.

Superpowers

Namaste and welcome to the Indian blog.  I think the best superpower would be is invisibility!!! I wish i could be invisible whenever i want to.  When you have the ability to be invisible, you can do whatever you want and nobody will suspect a thing because they cant see you.  These are the reasons why invisibility is my favourite.
